Keira Essex (she/her)

20/20 Curriculum Coordinator

Description

Keira is of mixed settler-Anishinaabe heritage, with Ancestors from Ireland, England, Wales, and Michi Saagiig Nishnaabeg territory. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Environmental Studies from Lakehead University, where she completed a thesis on the Medicine Wheel as Pedagogy for Climate Justice Education. She brings a background in climate activism, Indigenous education, and Indigenous environmental research.

Keira is thrilled to join Indigenous Clean Energy as the 20/20 Curriculum Coordinator. She passionately believes that Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Sovereignty must be centered for effective climate action and is grateful for the work Indigenous Clean Energy does to advance this.

Outside of work, Keira can be found making photos, zines, and linoprints, planning community climate events, and spending time at her local Friendship Centre.
