Global Indigenous clean energy action!
The place and rights of Indigenous Peoples are affirmed in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and have been ratified by almost every country worldwide and enshrined into Canadian law.
Indigenous Clean Energy’s Global Hub focuses on promoting global Indigenous clean energy action as a powerful means to give force to UNDRIP through Indigenous leadership and communities across the world.
It has been demonstrated that renewable energy capacity-building that is by and for Indigenous communities has been catalytic in the clean energy transition in Canada. This approach has impacted systems of change on local, policy and government levels and can be replicable and scalable in other world regions. It is time that power is put back into communities’ hands both systemically and in the form of energy for a sustainable and just future.
Our Goal is to catalyze the development of Indigenous and community-led Renewable Energy Microgrids (REMs) in global regions over the next three years supporting a just global clean energy transition.
Our Focus sees community REMs being a central pillar of global climate strategies reducing greenhouse gas emissions at scale—assessing commercial, development and climate finance.
Our Track Record is based on supporting Indigenous REMs projects and community energy planning in remote and northern diesel-reliant communities across Canada.
Our Programming builds Indigenous clean energy capacity through training, mentoring, collaborative-networking, and community-oriented planning to advance project implementation.
Our Approach emphasizes REMs project development that integrates the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to maximize economic, social and ecological outcomes.
Our Collaboration is respectful of country and local viewpoints and promotes intensive partnerships between Indigenous and local communities, utilities, and clean energy firms.
ICE’s Global Hub Strategy is all about democratized, decentralized, and decarbonized energy based on the principle of Decolonizing Power. We hope to work with communities, organizations, national and sub-national governments, utilities, companies and academic institutes to advance a clean energy future that leaves no one behind.
