Sheldon Nimchuk

In honour of those who journey with us in Spirit

Sheldon Nimchuk was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, grew up in Dalhousie, New Brunswick, and made Nunavut his home in his later years.

He was also a participant of the very first cohort of the 20/20 Catalysts Program, where his dedication to advancing Indigenous clean energy was evident from the start.

As Director of Project Management for the Qikiqtaaluk Business Development Corporation, Sheldon worked to strengthen infrastructure, improve access to food, and promote innovative technologies to support communities across Nunavut.

A passionate advocate for sustainability, Sheldon advanced a wind power pilot project in Iqaluit that aimed to reduce the community’s reliance on diesel. He also explored opportunities in solar and tidal energy, always pursuing ideas that could help build a more resilient and sustainable future.

Beyond his leadership in energy and infrastructure, Sheldon’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to co-found the Nunavut Brewing Company, Iqaluit’s local craft brewery, a decade ago.

Sheldon leaves a legacy of generosity, care, and commitment to community, along with many professional accomplishments.

He will be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humour and deep passion for his work that drove him to continually push the boundaries of what was possible when everyone “synergized” and the “stars aligned”. He enjoyed travelling the world and passed that passion onto his son and grandchildren, always looking to provide “experiences” to his family that he saw as helping them grow as individuals.
