The Home Energy Experience Tour brings practical energy efficiency education to Indigenous communities
OTTAWA, Ontario, April 7, 2025 – Indigenous Clean Energy (ICE) has officially launched the Home Energy Experience Tour (HEET), a national, touring workshop series focused on housing and energy efficiency in Indigenous communities. With multiple workshops completed and more underway, the tour will continue throughout the summer. This milestone marks another step forward in ICE’s mission to support Indigenous leadership in Canada’s clean energy transition.
HEET builds on ICE’s longstanding efforts to advance Indigenous-led solutions in clean energy. Each stop on the tour is supported by a community energy champion with strong ties to ICE programming, including participants in the 20/20 Catalysts Program, the Bringing It Home initiative, and the ImaGENation Program. The leadership of these local champions ensures workshops are rooted in community priorities and guided by Indigenous knowledge and values.
Each two-day workshop invites community members to take part in a small-group, hands-on learning session focused on energy-efficient home design. Using a model home and real-world building materials, participants explore how their decisions affect heat loss and energy efficiency. The sessions are designed to support collaboration and knowledge sharing while encouraging deeper conversations about sustainable housing solutions in a community context.
ICE’s broader efforts include hosting over 100 Indigenous energy leaders through the 20/20 Catalysts Program, supporting clean energy projects in more than 250 communities, and advancing housing solutions through its Bringing It Home initiative.
