Description
My names Brandi Hunter , I am from Sunchild First Nation, Treaty 6 Territory, with relations from Morley Ab Treaty 7 territory. I am both Sioux and Cree, fluent in both.
I am in my 3rd year for Multidisciplinary Studies, minor in Communication Major in Political Science from Red Deer Polytechnic, I do plan to expand my skill set and knowledge base to better serve Indigenous communities in the renewable energy sector. I am looking into environmental law, once finished my degree.
I am also a graduate from NAIT with my disaster’s management diploma. I also hold numourous certificates to my name. I also have graduated with other diplomas outside of Clean Energy topic, including Medical Assistant Diploma, Community Support Worker Diploma, Advanced Computerized Diploma, Addictions & Community Health Diploma, are just a few to name.
I am more involved with the youth and post secondary studies in my community and my neighbouring community O’Chiese First Nation. I have been apart of The Alberta Native Hockey Championship Tournament, with coaching the youth and putting in a competive U15 female team, I am also part of the National indigenous Junior hockey championship committee, which is held in Toronto, Ontario.
I come from a very cultural background, that beliefs in our traditions & still practices them. Especially when it comes “Mother Earth”. I truely believe we must keep this knowledge practice especially when it comes the energy services. I wanted to become part of this committee as I believe we have to continuously searching for ways we as Indigenous People teach those of non Indigenous the importance of the land and perspectives of natural law and western sciences.
I have went with my Mooshum/Ada (Grandpa) to traditional land sites to let companies and energy services know of the areas they can not touch, to area to avoid that traditional ceremonies or graveyards in place. This sparked more interest to be apart of IcE, through environmental benefits, health benefits, economic benefits, and energy security
