Indigenous Clean Energy (ICE) is an independent non-profit organization that advances broad sustainable prosperity by amplifying First Nation, Inuit, and Métis leadership in clean energy projects. ICE is a fully remote workplace with hybrid options for those who live in several areas within Canada. Our headquarters is currently located in Ottawa, but we have plans for an on-reserve office in the near future.
Position Summary
Indigenous Clean Energy is currently hiring an ImaGENation Intern on a full-time, six-month term with a possibility of extension. This position requires a commitment of 37.5 hours per week. Travel may be needed on an occasional basis for this role.
We are currently seeking a new team member to join our growing ImaGENation program, which focuses on empowering youth-led clean energy projects. The intern will support a range of activities, including but not limited to program participant outreach, administrative assistance, contributing to content development, communications, and logistics.
This person will be a critical part of the team with an eye to making sure all the small details get taken care of. This is an opportunity to make an impact by supporting Indigenous youth-driven initiatives and contribute to empowering sustainable communities. Responsibilities
- Support assistance for an Indigenous youth-led clean energy projects (e.g., solar, energy efficiency, microgrids, food-water-energy nexus, etc.);
- Arrange and coordinate participant interview process;
- Communicate the selection process to the participants;
- Facilitate the process of onboarding and ensure participants fill out the correct program forms;
- Update a database of IGEN participant data;
- Take the data received and accurately categorize within the preestablished team database in a timely manner;
- Aid in daily operations, including assistance with scheduling;
- Assist with program recruitment efforts, including email, phone, and in-person outreach;
- Liaise with ICE’s communications team, contributing to the monthly newsletter, scheduling social media posts, scheduling webinars, etc.;
- Monitor the uptake of mentorship offerings and participant usage of the project advisors;
- Ensure there is awareness among the participants of the Auntie-In-Residence program;
- Work within the cohort tracker, updating with relevant usage information, maintenance of the database, and escalating within the ImaGENation (‘IGEN’) team when necessary;
- Contribute to IGEN presentations, reports, and other forms of media as needed;
- Participate in internal team meetings and contribute ideas grounded in sustainability, community well-being, and cultural responsibility;
- Other duties as required.
Skills and Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
- A grade 12 level education or CAEC is required;
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a diploma or degree in a relevant field (working with youth, Indigenous studies, environmental sustainability would be an asset);
- Work experience in a relevant field or equivalent lived/community experience is also accepted;
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines;
- Ability to work independently and within a team;
- Willingness to learn and engage respectfully with Indigenous knowledge systems and community perspectives;
- Comfortable and capable with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc).
