Second Project Accelerator cohort gathers in Wakefield to transform housing through energy efficiency

WAKEFIELD, QC, August 5, 2025 – Indigenous leaders from 13 communities across Canada are gathering this week in Wakefield, QC, for the second in-person intensive training session of the Bringing It Home Project Accelerator program. From August 3 to 10, Project Stewards participate in hands-on training focused on advancing sustainable, affordable, and resilient housing through energy-efficient project development. The sessions are delivered by Indigenous and industry mentors and experts.
Participants will also attend a networking reception to connect with peers, share insights about Indigenous-led energy efficiency initiatives, and engage with experts in clean energy and housing. The event will be held on Thursday, August 7, at the Heron Bar, located in the Moulin Wakefield Mill Hotel and Spa, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m.
The Bringing It Home Project Accelerator is an Indigenous-led initiative addressing critical housing challenges through large-scale, community-driven energy efficiency projects. The program leverages energy efficiency as a pathway to healthier, more sustainable living.
“Indigenous Stewards are coming together from across the country to receive capacity-building training and project development support to move energy-efficient housing projects forward. These ambitious initiatives include large-scale deep energy retrofits and high-performance building standards tailored to their communities. There is enormous potential to improve the health, durability, and sustainability of homes while reducing energy poverty and greenhouse gas emissions. Through collaboration and knowledge sharing, we are working to transform housing for today and for future generations.” –Corey Cote-Diabo, Director of Efficiency and Transportation.
The unfortunate reality is that many Indigenous homes in Canada remain unsafe, unhealthy, and energy inefficient, an unacceptable situation that must change. These Indigenous leaders are ready to lead that change. After completing intensive training, they are now moving forward with innovative housing projects and need new avenues for funding and financing to bring them to life.
Building and strengthening partnerships is essential, not only to advance these projects but as a meaningful step toward reconciliation in Canada.
