Calvin is a proud member of the Mikisew Cree First Nation. From 2017 to 2020, Calvin served as a councillor of the Mikisew Cree First Nation, where he contributed to building the environmental and economic capacity to create a path towards sovereignty. As a councillor, one of his accomplishments was a leadership role in securing funding for a new water treatment for his people.
Calvin has served as a Director of Mikisew Group of Companies and a Co-Chair for Mikisew Government-Industry Relations. In 2018, Calvin was active in the start-up of Three Nations Energy – a 100% owned indigenous partnership responsible for developing, owning, and operating a 2.35 MW Fort Chipewyan Solar Farm.
Calvin was an early 20/20 Catalyst with Indigenous Clean Energy. He now serves on the ICE Advisory Council, hosts Power Hour webinars, and provides mentorship for 20/20 Catalyst and Generation Power participants. Calvin has recently joined Greenplanet Energy Analytics as an advisor, technology analyst, and community educator. He continues to work with youth, elders, and the community in Fort Chipewyan and beyond on a wide range of social, cultural, environmental, and climate initiatives.
Mentoring enables the transmission of knowledge from one person to the next, similar to how our ancestors have passed information around the fire for centuries. I view mentoring as a support system to help others reach their goals for an idea, a project, and their chosen life path.
I always focus on youth as they are the next generation coming up but recently, I would like to educate government, industry and businesspeople on how to speak, respect and welcome indigenous economics and environment to their table.
Anyone with interest in this exciting transition I would gladly speak with in any capacity they would see fit in their point in one’s journey.
