20/20 Team Joins the Access to Energy Conversation

1 in 5 people in the World live without access to electricity. A further one billion people live without reliable access to electricity – this includes many communities here in Canada.

This week, the Waterloo Global Science Initiative (WGSI) is working to address this issue through their OpenAccess Energy Summit. WGSI has brought together over 35 energy leaders from across the World to “develop an actionable framework for addressing electricity provision for energy isolated communities”.

Our very own, Eryn Stewart, Program Manager for the 20/20 Catalysts Program, will be there contributing ideas and bringing the Canadian context to the discussion. She’ll be tweeting highlights throughout the week – follow us on Twitter to be kept up to date. She’ll have a full write up about the Summit when she’s back, so be sure to check our blog next week!

In addition to playing a role on the Advisory Group for the Summit, Chris Henderson, Lead Mentor and Program Designer for the 20/20 Program, will be part of a panel on The Agenda with Steve Paikin. Chris joins other leaders including Ontario Regional Chief Isadore Day and Judith Sayers (Kekinusuqs) to discuss energy access and poverty in Canada’s Indigenous communities.

The episode airs tonight! Tune into The Agenda on TVO tonight at 8pm to see Chris Henderson talk energy access in Canada’s north.

No TV? Don’t worry, the episode will be posted on The Agenda’s website. Click here to be taken there now.
